The fund provides grants of up to $10,000 to councils, RSL sub-branches and community organisations for conservation advice and repair on existing memorials.
Member of the Legislative Council Taylor Martin said he was thrilled to see council awarded the funding, ensuring the local community had a place to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“As we approach the 100th anniversary of the armistice, the Maitland community is gearing up to remember Australia’s defence personnel,” he said. “The East Maitland War Memorial has significant heritage value and meaning for the local community.”
The fund is part of a major work program happening through the Centenary of Anzac, including a $40 million upgrade of the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park.
