But it was in fact the extravaganza that is the St Philip’s Christian College annual Spring Fair.
Saturday’s fair drew thousands of people to the Nulkaba school, where they enjoyed rides, live entertainment, markets, a petting zoo and more.
Principal Darren Cox said the day was a huge success, with attendance roughly on par with last year’s record breaking event.
“We’re thinking it’s about 7000 at the moment,” he said. “It really was a great day.”
The camel rides were a new addition this year, and keeping on the animal theme, the Hunter Valley Zoo petting zoo was also popular, Mr Cox said.
He also said it was great to have so many local products on show at the market stalls and local performers providing entertainment.
“There was lots of variety,” he said. “Everyone enjoyed themselves.”
