The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted showers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday followed by a possible shower on Thursday and a partly cloudy day on Friday.
It’s been a slightly wet start to the spring season in Maitland, with 4.6mm of rain recorded on Saturday – the most since June 20 when 24.8mm fell.
But the Bureau predicts that the prolonged dry conditions felt in the Hunter and other drought-affected areas are set to continue.
"These regions need a lot of rain to break the current drought," Bureau of Meteorology long range forecasting manager Andrew Watkins said.
"Like all Australians, all of us at the Bureau of Meteorology are hoping those affected by the drought will get the rain they need soon.
"Unfortunately, our outlooks show odds favouring a drier and warmer than average spring for many areas."
