Transport NSW has responded to calls for more public transport services and infrastructure in Maitland saying it has provided additional buses and the current level of rail service is in line with customer demand.

The response comes just days after Maitland mayor Loretta Baker and Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison called for new stations to be opened in the city’s growth areas like Aberglasslyn and for more bus services to be provided.
Cr Baker has stood by her 2017 election pledge to push the state to act on solving the city’s transport woes and said the wheels must be set in motion now.
She renewed her call for more public transport services, particularly rail, to link major centres in the region with massive housing developments poised for release across the city’s western and eastern suburbs.
A Transport NSW spokesperson said improving public transport options and connectivity in Maitland is something it continues to plan for and deliver and said it will continue to monitor services on the Hunter line to see where improvements can be made,
“Since 2015, over 300 additional weekly bus services have been delivered in the wider Maitland region,” the spokesperson said.
“These additional weekly services have been introduced to provide new or enhanced services to growing residential areas, including Huntlee, Anambah and Aberglasslyn.
“The current level of rail service at Maitland and surrounding stations is considered in line with customer demand.
