Pan-Asian eatery Wok This Way has already opened and will be followed by rotisserie chicken outlet Proud Rooster and burger joint Bergy’s Buns which are both set for a November launch.
The plaza is owned by Panthera Hospitality Group, and spokesperson Brett Hannah said the company intended to meet the increasing demand for quality food options in the area.
“We will be introducing some exciting new food concepts over the coming months,” Mr Hannah said.
“The whole of the region, including Maitland, is a booming area and we would like our new food offerings to follow that growth.”
Wok This Way is something of a return to the region for chef Pondthip “Nikki” Trakoolkerd, who most recently worked at The Star in Sydney.
Before that, Nikki’s wok skills were appreciated by Hunter patrons at two Kotara restaurants, Noodle Hut and Kinn Thai.
Nikki’s return to Maitland from Sydney to cook at Wok This Way is also a return to her cooked-from-scratch, home-style Thai cooking using fresh ingredients as she did growing up in her mother’s restaurant.
A grand opening for Wok This Way will be held on October 13 with kids activities and giveaways, including free pad Thai for the first 100 customers.
