Friday features the centenary of Armistice Day with a variety of events centred around Kurri Public School.
“Recent research showed Kurri contributed way above the national average in terms of volunteers -and casualties too – during the war years,” festival organiser Mike Coddington said.
“We have a variety of activities at the school … marches and re-enactments.
“Saturday is more entertainment-based for the family, all centred around Rotary park.
“We’ll have 40 stall holders, car clubs, gymnastics and crafts – and loads of fun things for the kids to try, like obstacle courses and face painting, that sort of thing.
“Activities will conclude with an inflatable screen and the screening of the Hugh Jackman movie The Greatest Showman from dusk. We want the whole family to come along, bring a blanket and be entertained for free.”
So how is it different to the highly popular Nostalgia Festival?
“Nostalgia brings in outside entertainment. This is more Kurri focused, using local talent. We have seven local schools participating.”
And with the weather being especially fickle over the last week or two, how’s the forecast looking?
“Fingers crossed, but it’s supposed to be sunny both days, with temperatures in the high 20s.”
