The Rutherford father-of-two spent a fitful night in his kombi to ensure he wouldn’t miss out on buying a block of land at new housing estate St Helena Village in Lochinvar.
“I had planned to be there at 5am but my father-in-law asked what I would do if there were already people there.” Mr Piirlaid said.
“I kept trying to get to sleep at home the night before but I couldn’t shake it so I decided to get there at midnight so I could be first in line.
“I slept with one eye open, waiting for someone else to turn up.”
It proved to be a successful tactic with the Pirrlaid family snagging a lot at the stage two release on Saturday.
According to Mr Piirlaid, the block size and “views” were the draw cards to the development.
“It’s going to the family house for many year,” he said.
“We’ve got two kids and a dog, and we want them to grow up in the area. We are really happy with the location.”
The residential development is made up of 174 lots, and this second stage release has 41 blocks available for purchase.
Peters Real Estate principal Tim Peters was surprised by the number of eager buyers who were already waiting at estate on Saturday morning.
He said they finished up the weekend with 15 contracts exchanged, which he believed was the most successful response in a single day in the agency’s history.
“It’s on a first come, first serve process. My colleague and myself got out there at 8am on Saturday, there were already seven groups of buyers at the gate,” he said.
“The first was there at midnight and the second arrived at 3am.” The blocks of land released in stage two include 1500m2 lots starting from $245,000 and 800m2 lots from $210,000.
“Stage one was 27 lots, and we sold that out before they’d started to turn the soil,” Mr Peters said.
“It offers country living with city convenience. The 1500m2 blocks give people the capacity to build their own mansions.
“It’s another high quality project that’s been delivered by the Hunter Land group.”
Peters Real Estate will be on site at St Helena Village on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.
