The circuit featured amazing views of the city, Nobbys Beach and Shortland Esplanade, which really put drivers to the test over the three-day event.
The real action however was track side where hordes of fans gathered to see their favourite drivers fight it out for the top spot.
Newcastle’s Supercars debut last year attracted a crowd of more than 190,000, according to race organisers, putting it on par with the Bathurst race weekend.
The official 2017 crowd of 192,242 in Newcastle was only 13,000 fewer than that announced for the four-day Bathurst 1000 race meeting. Last year’s Newcastle event had drawn 56,478 people on Friday, 69,526 on Saturday and 66,238 on Sunday. The final-day Bathurst crowd last year was 56,000.
Our photographers and journalists covered everything from the drivers to the crowds. Turn to our sports section for a full wrap up of the action at this year’s Newcastle 500.
