The resident told police he saw a shadow go down the side of the house and later noticed his wallet was missing.
Cards from the wallet were also later used to make fraudulent purchases via Paywave.
The man at the door was described as Caucasian, in his mid-30s, with a black beard and with black mid-length hair.
Any information should be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
