The official farewell to 2018 kicks off on New Year’s Eve at 5pm, and there will be a range of entertainment in the lead up to a spectacular fireworks display at 9pm.
PRD Nationwide Hunter Valley is sponsoring the event for the fourth consecutive year, and principal Rhonda Nyquist said it was fantastic to be back again.
“We at PRD Nationwide Hunter Valley are excited to be sponsoring New Year’s Eve in Maitland for the fourth year in a row,” Ms Nyquist said.
“We love the opportunity to give back to the community that supports us by providing this free family night out on New Year’s Eve.”
Along with live music from the likes of The Autumn Hearts and The Rehab Brass Band, the event will feature a range of free family friendly activities including amusement rides, a kids disco and craft activity, face painting, and a photo booth.
On the Lorn riverbank, there will also be a whole lot happening including a mega slide and family yard games.
Council’s Events team leader Kara Stonestreet said council was “thrilled to have the support of PRD Nationwide Hunter Valley for New Year’s Eve once again”.
“We’re looking forward to a great event with a range of music, food and free activities but once again the highlight will be the spectacular fireworks display at 9pm,” she said.
“We really encourage locals to come to the riverbank and celebrate with us.”
New Year’s Eve in Maitland is a family friendly event and council is encouraging people to drink responsibly, with antisocial behaviour not tolerated.
Visitors to the river front are permitted to take small amounts of alcohol into the event, with the regular alcohol free zone restrictions lifted between 3pm and 9.30pm.
