Anthony Coyle will perform at the Sydney Opera House in February, as a part of showcase Encore after turning the heads of Higher School Certificate markers.
He said it is a dream come true.
“I can’t believe it. I’m really excited, it’s almost a month away,” the 18-year-old said.
“My mum found out first, and she called me while I was at work. I almost passed out. I’ve been singing all my life.”
The annual Encore concert showcases the outstanding musicianship of HSC students from NSW schools as singers, instrumentalists and composers.
The program illustrates the range, variety and challenges offered by the three HSC Music courses across styles, genres and musical periods.
Featuring solo and ensemble vocal and instrumental works, from the classics to jazz and contemporary music. Anthony received top marks in Music I, scoring 98 out of 100 in his Higher School Certificate.
“I’m really happy, I went much better than I thought I would,” he said.
The singer performed four songs for his Higher School Certificate practical exam including Come Fly With Me by Frank Sinatra, This Is the Moment by Anthony Waller and Broken Vow by Josh Groban.
Anthony is still tossing up on plans for university but he knows music will always be a big part of his life.
“I want to balance a musical career with a normal career. I am thinking about doing law and business,” he said.
