The two teams had gone into the final as the only unbeaten teams in the eight team Andrew Blamey Cup which features teams from across Sydney, Newcastle and Illawarra.
In another fine team performance, Maitland dismissed the homeside for 146 (11 wickets) led by three-wicket hauls by Lachlan Heit (3/21) and Will Stoneman (3/37). Isaac Barry finished with 2/29 and Cameron Wynn and Jock Vivers picked up a wicket each.
Maitland No.3 Matt Lynch continued his great form with the bat steering his team to victory with an unbeaten 80. He received great support from opener Sam Parkinson who made 45.
The win leaves Maitland with 15 points, a game clear of Illawarra, Penrith and NSW Hurricanes.
They are at home to Northern District on Sunday at Robins Oval in the last round of the year. The six-round competition resumed on February 3.
Maitland’s under-14s had a 13-run win against Newcastle at Darling Street Oval.
Lachlan Page top scored with 53 and received good support from Baylee Borrow (26) and Samuel Lynch (25) as Maitland batted first and made 8/135 from their 50 overs.
A strong bowling performance restricted Newcastle’s run rate and they were eventually dismissed for 122.
Ben Parkinson had a day out finishing with 3-6 from 7.2 overs and Lynch completed a fine all-round performance with 2-8 off five overs. Denzel O'Brien took 2/23 and Jay Boyd, Page and Jordan Wells got a wicket each.
Maitland under-12s turned in a far better performance, after a disappointing loss last week, but finished 12 runs short chasing Sutherland’s total of 142.
Jack Ryan top scored with 31 and Charlie Walker 10 in Maitland’s total of 130.
Oscar Walker (3-12) and Jaxon Brooks (3-22) both got bag’s of three and Charlie Walker picket up 2-14. Thomas Thorpe took 1-18 and there were two run outs.
