The under-16 competition ended the long school holiday break last week with first up wins to City United and Northern Suburbs.
City United maintained top spot with an important win against closest rival Eastern Suburbs.
The young Griffins made 7/75 in 21 overs with City United bowler Thomas Whale starting 2018 brightly capturing 3-2 off three overs. Theo Atkins took 2-5 off three and Jock Vivers and Ewan Mowbray picked up a wicket each.
City openers Isaac Barry (31) and Sam Jordan (16) gave their team a solid start and they reached their target in 14 overs with three wickets down.
A great team effort was needed by Northern Suburbs to secure a six-run win against Kurri Weston.
Fine bowling by Lachlan Procter (4-13) and Bradley Christensen (3-15) enabled Norths to dismiss the young Warriors for 109.
The run chase went down right to the end with Krishna Nagarajan (29) and Ethan Gladman (24) the main contributors for Norths.
Raymond Terrace had the bye.
In under-16s it is round nine with one-day fixtures between Raymond Terrace and Northern Suburbs at Jack Collins Oval and City United host Kurri Weston and Robins Oval.
It is followed by the final two-day game of the regular season on February 10-17.
The semi-finals, featuring the top four teams will be staged on February 24 and March 3, with the winners progressing to the grand final to be held on March 10 and 17.
It’s the first week back for Kookaburra cricketers through to under-15s with the competition reaching the two-third mark with five rounds to play before the finals in under-12s to 15s.
There are five weeks of the regular competition remaining. Semi-finals are on March 10 and the grand final on March 17.
Meanwhile, Maitland representative teams are back in action on Sunday with the under-12, under-14 and under-16 IDCA teams all on the road.
Maitland is unbeaten in the under-16s and tops the table. Maitland is third in the under-14s and seventh of 14 teams in under-12s.
