Plovers joint skipper Mitchell Fisher said the big total gave the attack a chance to push for an outright victory if they could make early inroads when play resumes today.

“The priority is obviously to get the 10 wickets to get the win, but if we can get them early enough we can push for an outright which would give us a break on the other teams trying to get a spot in the finals,” Fisher said

Fisher said several batsman contributed to the big total with Mark Copus finishing on 92 not out after coming in at No.6.

Justin Lantry continued his fine form with 50, Aaron Mahony scored 72 in his 100^th first grade game and  Andrew Trappel made 76.

“For the first time this season we were able to build several big partnerships,” Fisher said.

“The innings didn’t lose momentum with the loss of wickets.”

Ryan Johnson had the best return for Kurri Weston finishing with 4-50.

City United and Eastern Suburbs are evenly poised going into today’s day two of their round-11 clash at East Maitland Park.

City skipper Matt Trappel led from the front scoring 69 as his side posted a competitive 224 on Saturday.

The middle order provided good support with Jordan Burton making 38, Nick Bower 24 and Anru Kriel 27 before Michael Heinrich hit a valuable 22 late to lift City’s total above 220. 

However, Easts bowlers were able to blunt City’s momentum by making an initial break-through and following it up with the wicket of the other established partner.

Brendan Allen led an even bowling performance with 3-36 and Josh Hicks claimed 2-48.

Northern Suburbs is on top in a rain-affected match against Thornton with play to resume at noon today to catch up 14 overs lost to rain.

Thornton resume on 7/156 with Dan Willis on 63 and Chris Archer 25 and will need the partnership to remain together to post a score their bowlers can defend.

Teenage paceman Rex Greaves made the initial breakthrough removing Jamie Krake for one and Matt Gabriel for eight both caught behind by keeper Luke Stewart.

When Lincoln Mills dismissed Thornton skipper Jake Moore for three, the Thunder had slumped to 3/25.
