This is the fourth time the Mattara Hillclimb has been held at the Ringwood complex,15 kilometres north of Raymond Terrace on Italia Road, after the iconic event was moved from Newcastle's King Edward Park following the 2015 event.
The competition will run for two days, a different course will be contested each day, with the best time of each competitor on the day added together to determine their result.
There have been 66 entries received across 14 different categories. Six women will be competing which is the most for the event at Ringwood.
Run by the MG Car Club Newcastle the field for the Hillclimb is made up of the full range of vehicles, from standard road registered cars through to wild sports sedans, as well as formula cars.
MG Car Club president David Atkins said this year's event had drawn competitors from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Armidale, Tamworth, Coffs Harbour and Kempsey as well as a large contingent of MG Car Club Newcastle members.
"There will be strong competition in the open wheel race cars, with three-ong term members going head to head against each other plus the other five entrants in the class," Atkins said.
"It's possibly the largest open wheel race car gathering for a Mattara Hillclimb for many years."
Sports car driver James Pearson has broken the class record at each of the sixrounds of the NSW Hillclimb Championship and already holds the Ringwood record in his Mazda RX7.
He is very likely to break the class record for each track this weekend.
Admission fee is $5 each or $10 per car.
