Price crashed out at the 155km point of the stage suffering a heavy knock to his head and injuring his left arm and shoulder.
He started second overall behind Jose Ignacio Cornejo and had cut heavily into Cornejo's lead to just one minute and looking
At the time of his fall in which he also hurt his left arm and shoulder, Price had actually taken the lead.
The 2020 champion Ricky Brabec and Price's KTM teammate Sam Sunderland lost 15 and 14 minutes respectively as they stayed with Price until medical assistance arrived.
Both riders are expected to be awarded back time by the organisers.
