In the other game, Thornton continued their good early season form with a hard-fought win against Raymond Terrace.
Wests No. 11 Harry King has six months of bragging rights after scoring the winning runs against City in an intense battle which went down to the penultimate over.
With his side at 9/165 and needing six runs to win, King hit the first ball he faced for two and then dispatched the second for a four and victory after eclipsing City's total of 170.
"Harry will be bragging about that for the next six months," Wests skipper Mitchell Fisher joked.
"That was a really good, tight game of cricket. I'm just glad we got the win because it would be hard to take losing such a close game."
City's Todd Francis was the hero of the day in a beaten team top scoring with 67 and taking 5-39 despite limping heavily after injuring his leg in a fall mid-wicket while taking a quick run early in the match.
"He nearly single handedly won the game for them yesterday," Fisher said of Francis' performance.
Michael Heinrich was the other major contributor for City making 39 in his first game of the season.
Fisher was the pick of Wests bowler taking 4-47 and running out Karl Bowd with a superb direct hit off his own bowling.
Openers Tom Irwin with 57 and Zac Gayer 25 gave Wests another solid platform, but some excellent bowling by City particularly from spinners Francis and Nick Bower (2-68 off 17 overs) made it a struggle to the end for Wests.
Kurri Weston celebrate their first game at home with a six-wicket win against Norths, led by an outstanding 91 to Liam Neild which included seven fours and four sixes.
Chasing 8/203, the Warriors posted 4/204 to claim victory with eight balls to spare.
Josh Tuckey returned to Kurri Weston and made 25 at the top of the order, while Ben Crebert 38 not out and Liam Dalibozek unbeaten on 28 saw the Warriors home.
Eastern Suburbs pushed for an outright win against Tenambit Morpeth after dismissing the Bulls for 89 in 45.3 overs.
Needing points to get their season back on track, the Griffins made a scorching 7/152 off 27.5 over overs before declaring to leave 26 overs to dismiss the Bulls for a second time.
The Bulls slumped to 4/28, but David Hancock steadied the ship with an experienced knock and he was 25 not out along with Ryan Wind on 1 not out with Tenambit Morpeth 4/56 at stumps.
Thornton consolidated their good start to the season with a 16-run win against Raymond Terrace at Jack Collins Oval.
After declaring at 9/181 in tough conditions last week, Thornton completed their task by dismissing the Terrace for 165.
Thornton skipper Matt Gabriel admitted it was type of game they probably would have lost in past seasons, but they put in a really good team performance against the Lions to get the win.
"Terrace played really well and at 3/103 we knew we were in a for a real battle. The difference in the end was that we probably just batted with a bit more patience," Gabriel said.
"We worked hard on restricting their runs and got through our overs quick which built up the pressure and we eventually got the result."
